Don’t Ever Forget About Breakfast
By Evan Amon
Often defined, “the most important meal of the day”, breakfast can often be what defines how the rest of our day goes. Imagine the best breakfast you have ever had, so tasty and full of nutrition! That breakfast obviously affected your day, right? You were more energized and joyful because man, that bowl of cereal made you feel good! We need to treat our Fruits of the spirit like that. The fruit that the Holy Spirit gives us should be the very first thing we dwell on in the morning and should define our actions the rest of the day.
So, today’s Fruit to munch on is Self-Control. But doesn’t self-control contradict our relationship with God? If we have self-control doesn’t that mean that nothing, including God, should have control over us? I tell you absolutely not! The self-control we are talking about is one of control over our earthly desire. Those times you feel like you HAVE to get that new iPhone but somehow keep yourself from buying it (realizing that is way too much money for a phone) is self-control. But it is also deeper than that. It is having control over our sins and pointing yourself in the right direction. Every day we are faced with these lies the Enemy is trying to throw at us, but a relationship with Jesus means that we are given the power to overcome and push away those lies. When Jesus was tempted by Satan in the wilderness, Jesus had the self-control to say no to the enemy and call out his lies.
As Jesus did, we must recognize the things that try to ruin our self-control. Call out those things as lies. It is also very hard, but the best way to do it is to stay in your Bible or in prayer every morning. That time equips us for the day. Take time to eat your Fruits of the spirit each morning.
