“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.” And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day.”Genesis 1:1-5
Tohu wa-bohu: formless and void (Hebrew)
I know I am probably the only person I know who has had days, nights, weeks, periods of time where my life feels “formless and void”. (Man we need sarcasm font). Some call it depression, some call it sadness, some call it dark days: but what I know is we have all been there. Someone reading this right now is in the center of this moment of “tohu wa-bohu” (formless and void). The moment before God spoke, and there was light, the world was in a state of “tohu wa-bohu”. If you are reading this right now and you feel your life is in a state of “formless and void”, where you feel like you are swimming in nothing, remember today: God spoke and there was light! The same God who spoke at the very beginning of creation and the “tohu wa-bohu” became filled with light and then life, is the same God who wants to speak into your life: today! Through the life of Jesus we find light and life! I am praying as you read this that when you are in those moments of “tohu wa-bohu” that the Spirit of the living God will speak into your formlessness and void moments and bring the light of life!
